Why Turkey

Why study computer engineering in Turkey

A four-year degree

YÖK-approved universities

Universities in Turkey are approved by YÖK, Turkey's Council of Higher Education, and their degrees are official Turkish university degrees. For North Cyprus, check the recognition of your program before you enroll.

Accredited programs

Some programs hold engineering accreditation. Doğuş University's Computer Engineering (English) program is accredited by MÜDEK, and Eastern Mediterranean University's Computer Engineering is ABET-accredited.

Taught in English

Many universities teach engineering in English. Bilkent, Kadir Has (except Law) and TED University teach their programs in English, and Atılım teaches all its engineering programs in English.

Admission

Admission requirements for computer engineering

What universities usually ask for

  • Valid passport
  • High school diploma (or expected graduation letter) and transcripts
  • English certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL, if you have one (many universities also run their own English test)
  • Passport-size photo
  • Some universities also ask for a letter of intent or a reference letter

Private universities usually admit international students on their high school grades, without a central entrance exam. Some accept or prefer international results: Bilkent accepts results such as the SAT, A Levels and the IB Diploma, and TED University accepts diploma grades, SAT, GCE A Level or IB, but not YÖS scores from other universities.

State universities use their own quotas. Istanbul Technical University, for example, asks for an accepted exam score such as SAT, ACT, IB, A-levels, TR-YÖS or national results such as Pakistan's HSSC, and students in programs taught 30% in English must also get a C1 Turkish certificate within one year.
