Medicine is one of the most popular degrees international students choose in Turkey. Private (foundation) universities in Istanbul and Ankara, and universities in North Cyprus, run six-year medical programs that you can join directly after high school – many of them taught fully in English.
This guide brings together the 2026 tuition fees for medicine at the universities we work with, explains how the program is structured, what you need to apply and how to secure your place. All fees below come from our admissions portal and are updated regularly.
In short: English-taught medicine at private universities in Turkey costs roughly $12,000 to $44,000 per year, Turkish-taught programs start lower, and North Cyprus is usually the most affordable option. The program lasts six years and most universities admit international students based on their high school results.

How long is medical school in Turkey?
Medicine in Turkey is an undergraduate-entry degree that lasts six years. You apply with your high school diploma – there is no separate pre-med degree. The final year is a full internship in the university hospital, so most students graduate with real clinical experience.
- Years 1–3: basic and pre-clinical sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology).
- Years 4–5: clinical rotations in internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and other departments.
- Year 6: internship as a supervised junior doctor.
If your English level is not yet proven, universities usually place you in a one-year English preparatory program before the first year of medicine. In Turkish-taught programs the same applies for Turkish.

Requirements for international students
Each university sets its own admission rules, but most private universities ask for the same core documents:
- High school diploma (or proof that you will graduate this year) and full transcript.
- Passport copy.
- Proof of English – IELTS, TOEFL or a similar certificate. Without one, you can usually take the university’s own English exam or join the preparatory year.
- Some universities set a minimum high school grade for medicine or ask for an exam score (for example SAT or a university entrance exam). Your advisor will tell you which programs your grades qualify for.
Requirements for medicine are stricter than for most other programs, and places are limited, so it is worth applying early and to more than one university.
How to apply and secure your place
- Shortlist programs. Compare fees, language and city above or on our medicine program search.
- Prepare your documents – diploma, transcript, passport and English certificate if you have one.
- Apply online. We submit your application to the universities you choose and follow up with them.
- Accept your offer and pay the deposit to confirm your seat. The university then issues your acceptance letter.
- Apply for your student visa and plan your arrival and registration.
For the full process step by step, read our guide on how to apply to Turkish universities.
Is a medical degree from Turkey recognised?
Medical faculties in Turkey are approved by YÖK, the Turkish Council of Higher Education, and North Cyprus universities by YÖDAK. If you plan to practise medicine in another country after graduating, check that country’s licensing rules early – many require a licensing exam or a period of supervised practice for all foreign-trained doctors.
