Why Turkey

Why study nursing in Turkey

A four-year degree

A bachelor's degree in nursing takes four years. If you need to improve your English or Turkish first, you usually study a preparatory year.

YÖK-approved universities

Universities in Turkey are approved by YÖK, Turkey's Council of Higher Education, and their degrees are official Turkish university degrees. For North Cyprus, check the recognition of your program before you enroll.

Hospital training

Several universities have their own hospitals, such as Acıbadem University's Maslak and Atakent hospitals, Başkent University Ankara Hospital and Near East University Hospital.

English or Turkish

Many nursing programs in Turkey are taught in Turkish. A smaller number of universities offer nursing in English, often next to a Turkish track.

Admission

Admission requirements for nursing

What universities usually ask for

  • Valid passport
  • High school diploma (or expected graduation letter) and transcripts
  • For English-taught programs: an English certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL, if you have one (many universities also run their own English test)
  • For Turkish-taught programs: a Turkish certificate, such as TÖMER, if you have one
  • Passport-size photo

Private universities usually admit international students on their high school grades, without a central entrance exam. Each university sets its own minimum grades.

For Turkish-taught nursing you need a good level of Turkish. Some universities ask for it when you apply: Cappadocia University, for example, asks international applicants to declare at least B1 Turkish, and offers Turkish preparatory education. Others let you study a Turkish preparatory year first. We also help students with Ankara University TÖMER exams in Istanbul.
