Why Turkey

Why study dentistry in Turkey

A five-year degree

Dentistry in Turkey is a five-year program. If your English is not yet at the required level, you usually study an English preparatory year first.

YÖK-approved universities

Universities in Turkey are approved by YÖK, Turkey's Council of Higher Education, and their degrees are official Turkish university degrees. For North Cyprus, check the recognition of your program before you enroll.

Training in dental hospitals

Many universities run their own dental hospitals, such as DENTAYDIN at Istanbul Aydın, Üsküdar Dental Hospital and the dental hospitals of Yeditepe and Istanbul Okan.

Taught in English

Several private universities teach dentistry fully in English, and some also have a Turkish track. A few programs are only partly in English, so always check the teaching language.

Admission

Admission requirements for dentistry

What universities usually ask for

  • Valid passport
  • High school diploma (or expected graduation letter) and transcripts
  • English certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL, if you have one (many universities also run their own English test)
  • Passport-size photo
  • Some universities also ask for a letter of intent or a reference letter

Private universities usually admit international students on their high school grades, without a central entrance exam. Dentistry, like medicine, often has higher requirements than other programs.

For example, Başkent University does not accept a diploma alone for Medicine and Dentistry: it asks for a qualifying result such as YÖS, SAT, ACT, IB or A Levels, and a higher English score (for example TOEFL iBT 96). At Ankara Medipol, students without an English certificate study a one-year English preparatory program before Dentistry.

Each university has its own list and minimum grades. We tell you exactly what your chosen program needs. Also see our guide to studying medicine in Turkey in English.

FAQ

Questions students ask about dentistry in Turkey

Is a Turkish dentistry degree recognized?

Universities in Turkey are approved by YÖK, Turkey's Council of Higher Education, and their degrees are official Turkish university degrees. The dentistry degree takes five years. If you need to improve your English first, add an English preparatory year.

At many of the universities above, yes. Our program search shows the teaching language of every program.
