Why Turkey

Why study pharmacy in Turkey

A five-year degree

Pharmacy in Turkey is a five-year program. If your English is not yet at the required level, you usually study an English preparatory year first.

YÖK-approved universities

Universities in Turkey are approved by YÖK, Turkey's Council of Higher Education, and their degrees are official Turkish university degrees. For North Cyprus, check the recognition of your program before you enroll.

Links to health groups

Several universities belong to healthcare groups. Acıbadem students get priority for internships in Acıbadem Healthcare Group hospitals, and İstinye students train in hospital campuses linked to the MLP Care group.

Taught in English

Many private universities teach pharmacy in English, and some offer a Turkish track as well. A few programs are partly or fully in Turkish, so always check the teaching language.

Admission

Admission requirements for pharmacy

What universities usually ask for

  • Valid passport
  • High school diploma (or expected graduation letter) and transcripts
  • English certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL, if you have one (many universities also run their own English test)
  • Passport-size photo
  • Some universities also ask for a letter of intent or a reference letter

Private universities usually admit international students on their high school grades, without a central entrance exam. Health programs such as pharmacy can have higher grade or language requirements than other programs.

For example, Girne American University asks Pharmacy students for a higher English proficiency score than other programs. Students show a certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL, or pass the university's own English proficiency exam.

Each university has its own list and minimum grades. We tell you exactly what your chosen program needs. Thinking about other health degrees? Read our guide to studying medicine in Turkey in English.

FAQ

Questions students ask about pharmacy in Turkey

Is a Turkish pharmacy degree recognized?

Universities in Turkey are approved by YÖK, Turkey's Council of Higher Education, and their degrees are official Turkish university degrees. Whether you can work as a pharmacist in your home country depends on your national pharmacy authority, which may ask you to pass a licensing or equivalence exam. Check its rules before you enroll. For North Cyprus universities, check the recognition of your program with your own country's authorities too.

How long is pharmacy in Turkey?

The pharmacy degree takes five years. If you need to improve your English first, add an English preparatory year.

Is pharmacy taught fully in English?

At the universities listed above, Pharmacy has an English-taught option. Some universities teach it partly or fully in Turkish, for example Bezmialem Vakıf (about 30% English) and Başkent, where Pharmacy is taught in Turkish. Our program search shows the teaching language of every program.

What is the difference between MPharm and PharmD?

They are two types of pharmacy degree, and Cyprus International University offers both. Which one fits you depends on where you want to work, so an advisor will help you compare them with the rules in your home country.
